Named after the Indian philosopher Jeevan , Virar is one of the well-developed localities of north Mumbai. It is also a part of the politan gion and Vasai- Municipal Corporation in the Thane district. Once the proposed Virar-Alibaug corridor project is completed, this locality will connect to four major highways: NH-8 (Mumbai-Ahmedabad), NH-3 (Mumbai-Agra-Delhi), NH-4 (Mumbai-Chennai) and NH-17 (Goa-Mangalore-Kerala). Virar is divided in two parts, East and West.
East is home to several developing areas like Manvelpada, Phulpada, Chandansar Road and Veer Savarkar Road while West houses some of the well-developed areas between Bhayander and Virar. Yazoo Park, St. Peters Church, Jain Temple, the famous Arnala and odi beach and are some of the popular attractions in Virar.
Connectivity
Virar is well-connected to Mumbai via the Western line of Suburban Railways and Western Highway. It offers easy accessibility to the main parts of the city by road and rail and is the first station on the Western suburban local train route of Mumbai.
The airport is about 57 kilometers from Virar and it takes almost an hour and a half to reach the Churchgate station by train. The - Corridor is expected to bring connectivity to the proposed International Airport and also provide a faster route linking Raigad and Thane. The proposed corridor will pass via Vasai and Diva Road.
